Don't Go 03:58
Don’t go! I just want you to want me But you just run around, Don't be a fool, can’t you see How this is fallin' down Don't end before the start Cause if you take the horse, you'll take the cart, just - Don’t go! It’s just a game: you chase me And then you run away, And it’s a shame, I can’t see The game is underway Can we recover this? Would you release control if I insisted Don’t go! But we’re still circling round We should be breaking out, lost and found, so - Don’t go!

Magpie 04:21
Build your nest of shiny things, Tiny buttons, beads and strings. One for sorrow, two for joy, Three for a girl, four for a boy. Songs and stones and diamond rings, Daily prayers and offerings. Five for silver, six for gold, Seven for secrets never told. Words are stolen by the breeze, Birds take flight out of the trees, Time will steal your memories, When you have said goodbye. Dry your eyes, take your time, Tell yourself it will be fine, You go your way, I'll go mine, Pebbles, smooth as lies. Hearts that break and tears that sting, Photographs and wax and wings. Four and twenty in a pie, Kissed a girl who made you cry. Sticks and twigs and blades of grass, Bits of china, broken glass. Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss, Ten for a bird you must not miss. Words are stolen by the breeze, Birds take flight out of the trees, Time will steal your memories, When you have said goodbye. Dry your eyes, take your time, Tell yourself it will be fine, You go your way, I'll go mine, Pebbles, smooth as lies. Things that you knew from the start Would one day be torn apart, Songs and stones will break your heart, But love should never hurt you. Flying blindly to the sun, Wax will melt and come undone, Solemn as a river stone, Empty as a promise... Words are stolen by the breeze, Birds take flight out of the trees, Time will steal your memories, When you have said goodbye. Dry your eyes, take your time, Tell yourself it will be fine, You go your way, I'll go mine, Pebbles, smooth as lies.

We, we talk for hours, hours become days, Our dialogue moves in mysterious ways, And neither of us knows what this will be. This goes into private places, And this fills up empty spaces, This overflows the banks of memory. Now, breaks me open, lifts me up, Pushes me out on a limb, So I say I love you - but then You don't say anything, You don't say anything, You don't say anything. Weeks, weeks filled with passions, awoken, intense, Each move unexpected, exciting each sense, The whirlwind of romance sweeps us along. But under this carnal lust is A thought leading me to mistrust this: What fuels this suspicion so strong? Now, tears me open, fills me up, Pushes me to my extreme, I want to expose it - but then I don’t say anything, I don’t say anything, I don’t say anything. You, you show repentance, down on your knees, Whimpered excuses, entreaties and pleas, You tell me you love me, that I’m the one. But you took her to private places, And you took pains to cover traces, And you say she’s nothing and she’s gone. Now, tips me over, wakes me up, Pushes me out to cut loose, So I say I’m leaving - and then I tell you: Don’t say anything, Just don’t say anything, No, don’t say anything, Don’t say anything, Just don’t say anything.

Pedestal 04:29
The tilt of your chin, The set of your brow, Sculpted for artful display. You hold your head high, Expecting to fly from the prow, When it’s anchors aweigh. The curve of your mouth, The words that come out, All pretty and painted to please, You laugh and you smile, You flirt and beguile, Seduce with the greatest of ease. You throw yourself into the light, Your flaws look so small from down here, We can’t see them if you stand just right, Take care not to slip my dear, You can mind your step but when you fall You're going to break your crown, When you stand atop your pedestal You know it's a long way down, You know it's a long way down. You need to be seen, You seek out the gaze, That proves that you’re worthy of love, You strive to delight, To charm and amaze, To climb head and shoulders above. Adoring, engrossed, Your penitent host Gather besotted below, But always in time, Gilt loses its shine; The queen and her reign overthrown. You bathe yourself under the light, It shines through the cracks in your veneer, We can see them when you stand just right, Take care not to slip my dear, You can mind your step but when you fall You're going to break your crown, When you stand atop your pedestal You know it's a long way down, You know it's a long way down.

Wild 04:22
No silver wings On sleepless breeze, It seeps inside me Through ashen skies, I am fallen, I will rise to fly again, I am fallen, I will rise to fly... Tried to deny - hollowed inside, Time to defy! I’m making it wild, I’m making it mine, I’m making it move, I’m taking it high, I’m taking it wide, I’m taking it through. Your words collide, Our worlds divide, They all deny me, They don’t ask why, These autumn chords Sleep dissonant, They won’t resolve me, They don’t dissolve, I am fallen, I will rise to fly again, I am fallen, I will rise again I’m making it wild, I’m making it mine, I’m making it move, I’m taking it high, I’m taking it wide, I’m taking it through.

Time 04:11
Footfall after footfall led me here, Turning after turning so unclear, Motions and emotions generating fear, Learning and unlearning how to hear (I never thought I would be here). There is nothing but time around me, I am standing where time has found me, Life and all time surrounds me, Filled with sound, Silently. Decade after decade through your eyes, Colour after colour drained inside, Passion so dispassionately cast aside, Learning and unlearning how to hide (You never thought you’d reach so high). There is nothing but time around you, You are standing where time has found you, Life and all time surrounds you, Filled with light, Invisibly. Looking as far as the eye can see, Moments that last for eternity, No stone unexplored or left unturned, Sitting and watching the sun go down, All alone inside the crowd, No thoughts unexpressed as life returns. Message after message in our minds, Moment after moment now rewinds, Elation of sensation bound and intertwined, Learning and unlearning how to ride (We never thought that we would find)... There is nothing but life around us, We are standing where life has found us, Life and all light surrounds us, Filled with time, Endlessly.

I have seen you before At the departure board, Seeking your destination. I have seen you around, I don’t know where you’re bound, But you might be above my station. Waiting in silence alone on a platform end... Going by the numbers, ’Cause I’m always going underground with you, Going by the numbers, ‘Cause I always seem to wonder about you. Every morning it seems, You’re an engine in steam, But you’re too far around the curve. For in this numbers game I see you aren't the same As the others that I’ve observed. I'm waiting in silence, the curse of a youth mis-spent... Going by the numbers, ’Cause I’m always going underground with you, Going by the numbers, ‘Cause I always seem to wonder about you. Hey! Have I seen you before? Just stand clear of the doors, And I’ll deepen your tunnel vision. ‘Cause you know what we’ll find At the end of the line, When we’re caught in a chance collision. We're waiting in silence as we ride to journey's end… Going by the numbers, ’Cause I’m always going underground with you, Going by the numbers, ‘Cause I always seem to wonder about you.

Dark Truth 02:54
Maybe she tells you what you want to hear, But I can't be bothered with that, Maybe she smiles her prettiest smile, Or cries at the drop of a hat. She's got you wrapped around her finger, And now she'll put you through the wringer: When you're done with pretty white lies, I'll give you the dark truth. Maybe she'll sprinkle her magic on you And use every trick that she learns, Maybe she'll watch as you go down in flames, And laugh while the whole thing burns. It's like she does it just to test you, That's why I'm coming to the rescue: When you're done with pretty white lies, I'll give you the dark truth. She gave you her beauty, She gave you her youth, She gave you the photos so you’d have the proof, She took all your love, And she took all your pride, She used them all up and she cast them aside, You gave her your money, You gave her your time, You gave her a reason, you gave her a rhyme, She took a new lover, And your piece of mind, And now all that's left is what she left behind. Don't come looking for platitudes, I haven't got a lot to say, Got no patience for attitudes, I'm tired at the end of the day. You won't like all the things I'm saying but, It's not a game and I'm not playing: When you're done with pretty white lies, I'll give you the dark truth.

A black umbrella opens like a black heart beating underground, Its black wings now unfolding to protect me from the weather, A black umbrella opens like a warning to take cover, A black flag raised beside a grassy knoll. It’s about to come down, It’s about to come down, It’s about to come down, Down. On rain-soaked silver sidewalks like a black and heaving watercourse, In an inky black procession people run between the raindrops, In a hurry to be nowhere under big black skies. It’s about to come down, It’s about to come down, It’s about to come down, Down.

Detonate 05:31
I didn’t know it but when I fell for you, You handed me a bomb, A trigger in your pocket, Finger on the button, Hard wired to my heart, Detonate at will, Detonate at will. I didn’t know it but I had a trigger In my pocket too, Finger on the button, Hard wired to you, Detonate at will, Detonate at will. Then I noticed soldiers lined on both sides, Standing to attention, waiting for the order. Nurses waiting to receive the wounded, Ready to jump in.. To help save one of us, Or help save both of us, From ourselves and each other. Bowed and bloody, Too proud for defeat, Wave the white flag, And make a retreat, No-one vanquished, And no victory, Just wave the white flag... You and I are in the same position, Holding in our hands the weight of full potential. Face to face and facing our decision. No-one loses, no one wins, We just walk on with your hand in my hand, And the other in your pocket. Memorising the keys and codes, Wave the white flag, Or lock and load? Not till you see the whites of their eyes, Not till you see the whites of their eyes, Then wave the white flag... I didn't know it but when I fell for you, You handed me a bomb, And the key you gave to me, The key I gave to you are interlocked, Finger on the button, Trigger in your pocket, Do we have the heart ... Do we have the heart … To detonate at will? Detonate at will, Detonate…?

Diary 02:51
This is my diary, these pages aren't bare, They're writ through with secrets that I cannot share, They're writ through with secrets too heavy to think, I dare not preserve them in pen and in ink. It’s somehow describing the times you were near, To help me remember, to show I was here, 'Cause you are my secret, the content concealed, And you are the memory I must not reveal. So how will I write you today? Encoded, encrypted, and cloistered away, Can I compose all the things I should say? How will I write you today?

about

Fictional Histories is The Aeon Wanderers' debut album, and has been four years in the making. Draped in unique musical arrangements, at times hauntingly ethereal and at others brazenly bombastic, the songs are woven together by the illusion of a long, shared history: decisions and regrets, successes and failures, lessons learned, roads forever not taken and paths that might still be explored. It is a conversation about pausing in the midst of adulthood, taking stock of the paths that led us to this point, and realizing that there are many more songs left to sing.

about

The Aeon Wanderers Boston, Massachusetts

The Aeon Wanderers are a transatlantic duo who have been recording together since 2016. With a distinctive vocal blend and a penchant for sometimes dramatic musical arrangements, their songs flow from hauntingly etherial to brazenly bombastic, with occasional stops at points in between. Their debut album, Fictional Histories, is a conversation about mid-life arrival and where the paths lead next. ... more
